Some Tips To Help You Win At Tennis

Gregg Hall Said:

A Power Baseliner is a tennis player who prefers to play the base from the baseline than the net. This type of player is the most common sight in a professional game.

You can beat someone who tends to play from the baseline. The trick is to understand some simple tips. A professional player does not expect you to know these tricks. If you follow the tips correctly during your game, you can beat your opponent at his or her own game.

Make sure the other player has to hit a number of balls throughout the match. By constantly running around to return the ball you have just hit, you will quickly tire your opponent.

Watch your own shots. If you hit the ball short, the ball will be returned to you faster. By hitting the balls deep, you give yourself proper time to get back to the center of the court in preparation for the next volley.

Usually, Power Baseliners have a comfort zone. Study the player on the court and determine the height at which the tennis player is most comfortable swinging his or her racket. When you hit the ball, make sure the ball goes out of his or her comfort zone.

Hit many short shots so that the Power Baseliner is forced to move up to the net regularly. Try to keep the shots low so that your opponent has to struggle to get the ball back over the net. This pulls the other player out of his or her comfort zone and changes the dynamics of the game.

Vary your ball speed and spin. Keep your opponent guessing on what he will be chasing with the next volley. If he or she cannot predict your power and timing, the player is far more likely to blow the game.

Do not watch your opponent during the game. Instead, keep your focus on the aim of the ball. Use the angle of the ball to draw your Power Baseline adoring opponent out of his or her zone.

Try to hit low shots that come in near your opponent’s feet. Odds are high that he or she will fail to get the ball back over the net. A Power Baseline player wants balls that are high and long.

Use a top spin to ensure your balls go high and then drop in barely after passing the net. This will not be what your opponent wants or is used to.

If you move forward and return the ball before your opponent expects it, you will disrupt his or her plan of attack.

Beating a Power Baseline player at his or her own game is the key to winning. Remember that they want the ball to be high and deep. Keep them from their ultimate plan by mixing things up a little, and you are guaranteed a win.

Tennis – Sampras Out of the Seniors Tournament

Audrey Nolan Said:

Former tennis player of 37 years-old Pete Sampras, competed in London at the seniors tournament that was held last week at the Robert Albert Hall, were he didn’t reach Sunday’s finals due to the fact that he was defeated by the French Cedric Pioline  on Saturday’s match 7-6 (7), 7-6  (5).

But even despite his loss, Sampras was very happy to be back and expressed that all the memories he had from England were very nice and comforting for him. He stated that everything reminds him how good the British people were with him and all the victories he accomplished back in his glory days, in which he won the Wimbledon Grand Slam seven times in eight years.

On this event, Sampras opened his participation against John McEnroe, whom he beat 6-3, 6-4. That gave Sampras confidence on his game again, especially with his 19 aces. However, that was not enough since he lost against Pioline on the semifinals. This was the first match that Pioline could win over Sampras in his whole career. This two amazing players have been always very competitive but Pioline had always a difficult time returning Sampras’ serve, although during this last match he did control it and that was the main reason why he got the victory.

“I always had problems to return his serve,” said the Frenchman. “Suddenly, I could read his serve. I don’t know why.”

Long time ago, when Sampras played professionally in 1997, he defeated Pioline in the Wimbledon final, but things were very different back then. Sampras was known by his high level of competitiveness and that year he started another winning streak of four Wimbledon titles. With those accomplishments, he became one of the best grass players of all time.

Sampras played his last professional tournament back in 2002 at the US Open, where he set the record of 14 Grand Slam titles by defeating in the final his all-time rival, Andre Agassi. After this, he planned not to play again. Nevertheless, he has been coming back to tennis this year but very gradually, first competing in a pair of senior matches and then with an exhibition game against Roger Federer at the Madison Square Garden. In this great event, Sampras declared that he will also be pleased to play against Rafael Nadal sometime next year. He expressed that he may have a chance against the Spaniard, if he plays under the right circumstances, since he has always been very competitive.

Pete Sampras started his professional career in 1988 at the age of 16. His first match as a professional was against Sammy Gammialva Jr. As time passed by, he kept on improving and after a couple of ATP Tour titles early in 1990, he won the first Grand Slam title that same year on the US Open. He finished his professional career in 2002 win an amazing record of 64 Singles titles, including his 14 major titles, 5 Tennis Masters Cups, 2 Grand Slams Cup, 11 ATP Masters Series and 32 ATP Tour tournaments. He also still holds the record of being ranked World No.1 for the most weeks, 286 in total.

We will have to wait to see what Sampras is preparing to for next year and if he decides to keep playing, we hope he can show his excellent skills as he used to do. It would certainly be very pleasant to see more of one of the best players in tennis history.

How to Use Wimbledon to Help You Play Better Tennis

Paul Gold Said:

Yes Wimbledon is a few months away but preparations have to be made to help transition tennis players from the clay to the grass.

I was looking back at some notes I had made a year or so ago just before Wimbledon.

I had made these notes for some of the players I was working with who had Wimbledon qualifying coming up and I suddenly thought, “this stuff is not only good for the grass court season and Wimbledon, but it’s perfect for advancing your tennis game the rest of the tennis year”.

As I looked over the stuff I had written down, I pin-pointed 4 or 5 areas which were crucial to success on grass but also crucial to playing tennis just about anywhere else especially at club level.

So here they are.

1. Serve & Return

You should know by now that the 2 most important shots in tennis are the tennis serve and the tennis return.

When you play tennis on grass these shots become ultra important in terms of your control of the point, if you do neither well then you are unlikely to win very much.

But stop for a second and think about your own game, hitting the spots wth your serve and making good sharp returns can only be good even if the only time you ever get to “play on grass” is when you walk the dog!!

Let these shots become the cornerstone of your game regardless of what surface you play on and you can’t go wrong.

2. Footwork

One of the other things about playing on a grass court like they have at Wimbledon is that the footing can be uncertain, especially early in the tournament.

If you are not careful, the amount of sprinting and changes of direction you have to make could see you ending up being up ended!

To help my players stay on their feet I have them working on their tennis footwork focusing on getting themselves into a slightly lower and wider stance than they feel is normal (which also helped their balance and helps them cope with the low bounces that occur sometimes).

Again, you should take a moment to reflect how having better footwork and balance would improve your tennis game regardless of what level you are and where you play your tennis.

Work from today on getting a bit more flex in your knees and a shoulder wide stance and see how that not only improves your balance and agility but also your POWER!

3. Play Naturally

Because grass court tennis by nature is fairly fast it does take away or at least reduce your thinking time.

Most people are scared of this or see it as a bad thing but you need to see this as a good thing.

The fact is that most players actually play worse when they think too much and try too hard.

You need to set targets for yourself in terms of how you want to play and then – go for it!

It doesn’t matter if you are playing on a hard court – natural free flowing tennis should always be your goal.

4. Develop a Wicked Slice

One characteristic of a grass court is that is “takes” slice meaning that the shot is a good one to use on that surface.

It stays low and skids through making it difficult for your opponent.

You will therefore find players who don’t normally slice on other surfaces being forced to slice heaps more when they come to play on grass.

Again, just because you don’t play on grass it doesn’t mean you should never slice the ball (and I don’t just mean when you are in trouble and pushed out wide).

You only need to look at two of the greatest players in modern times who won on all surfaces and who were virtually unbeatable on hard courts.

Federer and Henin both had really good slices that they used for great variation as well as to set up their topspin and to attack the net.

Even Nadal is adding the slice into his game more and more.

So there you have it, 4 great reasons to take some great tactics that most people leave on the grass courts and add them to your game to make it heaps better.

Who said grass was only for cows??

Grand Slam Tennis – Safina, Williams to Dispute Ladies’ Crown

Peri Witny Said:

If Roger Federer is going for history by winning his 14th Grand Slam singles titles, Williams is going for her 10th and a piece of tennis history as she joins an elite club of women tennis players who have won 10 or more Grand Slam singles titles. And it surely is a club that she is bent on being a member.

When I looked at the draw a week ago, I really felt that Serena Williams was the player I expected to win. Maria Sharapova’s withdrawal gave her a clearer path to win the crown. Perhaps the only person who can beat her is her big sister Venus, but because of her erratic performances in past stagings of the Australian Open, I had my doubts if she could have made it until the quarterfinals even. Her early exit in this season’s staging has proved me right. Jelena Jankovic may have been seeded ahead of her but Jankovic does not yet possess the game that can beat Serena or even Venus in a highly charged, tennis match final. Dementieva may have beaten her previously but it was more of Williams not helping herself by committing more mistakes than by Dementieva producing more winners.

Williams should thank her lucky stars that on the day she played her semi-final match against Svetlana Kuznetsova, it was obvious that she was affected by the extremely hot weather conditions. I think she purposely lost the first set of that match so that the organizers can close the roof. It did provide a 15 minute respite from the heat and a chance to regain their bearings as both players returned to their quarters. However, it became apparent that between the two, Kuznetsova was very much against the roof closure. She knew that she coped better under the conditions and closing the roof could give her rival a chance to come back in to the match, which is what happened eventually. Hence, Williams survived another day.

In Dinara Safina, who subdued Vera Zvonareva in the other semi-final with a 6-3, 7-6 tennis scores, Williams shall be facing a formidable opponent  in the Australian Open tennis finals. If Serena has beaten her in the past, I expect that the Australian Open tennis final encounter to be a closer and tighter match. Safina has improved so much. Just when her career appeared to be heading nowhere, she suddenly found this incredible transformation in her game that saw her barge into the finals match of the French Open for the first time in her career. Surely the next step for her is  to win a major title and what better tournament to win than the Australian Open, the crown that older brother Marat Safin last won.It shall be an added feather in the siblings cap if Safina wins her own crown and be the first brother and sister champions of this tournament.

With this ladies’ singles final match, not only is the title on the line but also the added bonus of taking over the top ranking in women’s tennis for this year is at stake. And with Safina and Williams emerging to be the contenders for this event, whoever wins shall be a worthy tennis queen.

Get A Grip On Your Game With A Quality Pair Of Tennis Shoes

M. Xavier Said:

So you are heading off to the tennis courts for a friendly match among friends. You pack your racket and balls, don your tennis warmup suit, pull on a pair of sneakers, and you are ready to go; right? Wrong; any old pair of sneakers will not do, and you need a pair of tennis specific shoes if you want to make the most of your game. Sure, tennis shoes look good and will complement your outfit – and fashion is important – but that is not why they are indispensable; function, not form, makes the proper shoes a must.

While tennis shoes may look like ordinary, generic sneakers, they are anything but. They are shoes designed specifically to help you make tennis moves while protecting you from injury. Further, they are designed to withstand the kind of wear-and-tear to which tennis is sure to subject them. A typical running shoe is designed for straightforward movements, and it is cushioned in the heel to absorb the pounding impact that running delivers.

However, a running shoe does not have the lateral support that one needs during the side-to-side movements that tennis demands. If you wear a running shoe to a tennis match you are likely to limp off the court with a sprained ankle; running shoes do not have a supportive upper that will protect you from a rolled ankle. A shoe designed for tennis has a supportive upper portion that will provide the stability you need to move quickly and avoid injury.

Watch the feet of some tennis players the next time you are at the court or watching on television. You will notice that many players drag their trailing foot on the ground during their ground strokes, and especially on their serve. You will also notice that it is the toe portion of their foot that is being dragged.

Tennis shoes – unlike many other styles of athletic shoe – have a reinforced toe that is usually protected by the same durable material as the sole of the shoe. Without this protection the typical tennis player would wear a hole in the toe portion of their shoe very quickly. A shoe designed specifically for tennis has this area covered so the lifespan of your shoes will be dramatically increased.

The sole of the shoe is where the rubber meets the road, and that is especially important in the game of tennis. The soles of tennis shoes are designed to provide superior traction because the tread is built with the court surface in mind. Further, the sole of a shoe designed for tennis is made from a material that will not leave unsightly scuff marks on the court surface. It is for this reason that many courts do not allow shoes that are not tennis specific on their courts.

Tennis shoes are available in a wide range of styles and colors that are sure to complement any outfit, and that is especially important if you are a style conscious player. But more important, a shoe that is specifically designed for tennis will protect you from injury, provide tennis specific traction, resist wear-and-tear, and protect the court as well.

Buying a Tennis Racket for a Young Adult

Ivar Rudi Said:

The guideline for age of a person and the racket size that is used is very important. You should make sure that the racket is appropriate for the person. You want to make sure that the person is comfortable with the racket that they choose. You need to consider the physical strength and height of the person before you choose one for their game.

The rackets for younger people are generally much lighter that the tennis rackets for adults. You should also consider experience when determining the right racket for a young adult. When you visit any sporting goods store, the professional sales team there will help you in the consideration for the racket that is best for any young adult that wants to play this fun and fascinating sport.

A young adult is not big enough for an adult racket. They are probably better off with a standard twenty-seven inch racket rather than a larger one. The person should be able to use the racket and have a comfortable swing. The extra long rackets will tend to be heavier than those of a shorter handle.

Adult rackets come as light as 10 ounces but rackets that are lighter than 10 ounces are sometimes too small for the weight of the ball. You will want to be able to hit the ball and get it too move in the speed and direction that you intend it to. A beginner in tennis will not have to walk through the strokes of the game in order to make an informed decision based on an adult court.

When you are just not sure what tennis racket to buy for a beginning young adult or child, you can have them hold the racket behind him so that the tip touches their lower back and his elbow is the highest part of the arm. Then you should have them raise the racket over their head as if they were getting ready to serve the ball, however with a slower swing. If the racket is going to be too heavy for the young adult, this is when they are going to feel the burn.

One thing to remember is that the adult is going to grow out of the tennis racket, as they get older. Junior tennis rackets tend to be inexpensive. The nicer ones that you find at a pro tennis shop will run from twenty to forty dollars. When you are looking for a cheaper racket, they can be just as good as the more expensive ones. You should avoid the rackets that are lighter and more flexible than the others in the bottom of the price range.

Getting the young person to adjust to their racket will not be a hard thing to do. Have them play as often as they can and get the feel of their racket. It will also be good practice for the game of tennis as well.

History Of Tennis, Rules Of Tennis

Bercle George Said:

Tennis is a sport that has been there for hundreds of years. It is believed that the game was first developed in Europe- by European Monks . The rackets and balls utilized in previous game were of varied types. The game was absolutely well-known amongst the monks in the monasteries in Europe. Though, there was an instance when the church was contemplating on banning the game.

However, it was Major Walter C Wingfield who patented the tennis equipment and the rules of tennis game. These rules were almost the same as to the rules of the present rules for tennis. These patenting took place in the same year when tennis courts began appearing in the United States. Within a short span of time ( a year), tennis equipment began making an appearance in other countries outside the US.

This was the time when croquet was the most popular game. To be able to play tennis then, people started making use of croquet courts. They set up the courts for tennis.

Wimbledon, the oldest tennis tournament, was first realized in 1877. The courts used in Wimbledon then were slightly different from the courts in play today. Though, the rules were generally the same as today.

Tennis Rules

Rules for Tennis were first adopted on 1 January 1924. Making rules and regulations for tennis lies with the International Tennis Federation and it was accompanied by a Rules of Tennis Committee, which periodically monitors rules and make necessary recommendations for any modification, if it is needed. Suggested changes in rules can be on a permanent basis or for a limited trial duration. The board of directors take recommendations and pass it on to the general meeting of the International Tennis Federation for its perusal. The rules are applied only after the members of the general meeting arrive at a consensus.

Rules cover all aspects of tennis such as the size of the court, permanent fixtures, specifications of tennis balls, rackets, as well as the scoring system. There are rules that also manage the service methods, and the various kinds of faults.

Rules also covers (in substance) to behavior of the tennis players on and off the court. There are separate rules for a singles and doubles game. Rules may also vary slightly from one tournament to another. There are various rulebooks that give details of the numerous technicalities of the game to the players, officials and the spectators. Aside from this, from the game, tennis rules also include anti-doping laws to prevent players from taking banned substances.

Tennis. a Sport your Love Handles Hate !

Mary Said:

Tennis. A sport your love handles hate !

Tennis is very popular today. It was considered a sport of the sovereign society tennis , but not anymore. Tennis is in almost every high school in the United States. In the past years, the only way to learn tennis was to pay for expensive private tennis lessons. This is no longer the case today as private tennis lessons are not the only way to learn the sport. Children of all ages and backgrounds are taking up tennis as a hobby and are actively competing and developing tons of skills that help build character even when the child has stepped off the tennis court.

If one is going to take part in tennis activity, then one is going to need the proper tools in order to participate in the sport. Whether one is skiing, fishing or playing tennis, then he will need to have the proper tools in order to play the game or participate in the activity. Wilson is a name you can trust. This would seem like common sense.

The primary and utmost prerequisite accessory to play the game of tennis, is the tennis racket. The second is the tennis ball.

Okay, you may thing, you can’t really shrink the most important item down to just one item as a tennis racket without a tennis ball is pretty useless unless you are using it to beat someone over the head with it. At least with the tennis ball you can play catch the ball without the racket, but if you want to play tennis, the racket and the ball are the most important things you need.

One of the negative aspects of the sport is Tennis elbow. This is not exactly the nicest feeling in the world. It has a sharp pain to it and it can be relatively debilitating. And, contrary to what the name implies, tennis elbow is not a condition that is exclusive to those who play tennis. Athletes of any sport can suffer from such a malady.

And since we are talking about tennis, a diamond tennis bracelet is quite a number of things, but it is certainly not ever going to be dubbed an economical piece of jewelry. These types of diamond bracelets are among the most expensive and highly prized bracelets in the world.

These are the subjects we will discuss, among other hot new ones of the sport in our infoshop. So keep coming for fresh stuff.
