Tennis: Australian Open

Marian Aldana Said:

Amidst the current financial crisis, students talented in sports, such as tennis, apply for college athletic scholarships.  Many talented high school tennis players are hoping to get noticed during college tennis recruiting.  In the U.S., a collegiate circuit which oversees the processes involved in college athletic scholarships is organized by the National Collegiate Athletics Association.

The first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held each year is the Australian Open. The tournament is scheduled in January at Melbourne Park. The championship was played for the first time in 1905, and was fought on grass from 1905 through 1987. However, the tournament has been held on hard courts beginning in 1988, at Melbourne Park. Mats Wilander remains the only male player to have won the Grand Slam on both grass and hard courts.

There are men’s and women’s singles competitions in the Australian Open, just like all other Grand Slam tournaments.  These are men’s tournament, the women’s, and the mixed doubles; as well as junior’s and master’s competitions.

The two primary courts in the Australian Open are Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena.  These feature retractable roofs, which can be shut during rain or in days of extreme heat. Since it is held in the middle of the Australian summer, the Australian Open is well-known for its notoriously hot days. An extreme-heat policy is put into play when temperatures (and humidity) reach dangerous levels.  This is also the only Grand Slam tournament that features indoor play at present, although Wimbledon’s Centre Court in London is scheduled to have a retractable roof in 2009.

The Internet has proven to be a useful venue for both students and coaches involved in the applying for college athletic scholarships.  There are many websites and online forums wherein students and scouts can come together and interact.  D1Athletes is an online community wherein students and coaches alike can share and exchange information they need during college tennis recruiting.  D1Athletes offers them a place to build an online presence and gain important public exposure.

Why is it called a ‘Tennis Bracelet’?

There is an interesting story behind its sporty name. It got this name from the tennis player, Chris Evert. During the 1987 U.S. Open championship, she broke and lost her bracelet. She requested to stop the match in order to recover her bracelet. That very style of diamond bracelet she was wearing, soon was called as Tennis Bracelets, and it became unintentionally public hit.

Originally, they were called as “Eternity Bracelets”.

For bracelet styles, you can get these diamond tennis bracelets in the different diamond shapes and sizes. For metal choices, white gold and yellow gold are the most popular, but platinum is often preferred for high carat values. Some Tips To Help You Win At Tennis

Gregg Hall Said:

A Power Baseliner is a tennis player who prefers to play the base from the baseline than the net. This type of player is the most common sight in a professional game.

You can beat someone who tends to play from the baseline. The trick is to understand some simple tips. A professional player does not expect you to know these tricks. If you follow the tips correctly during your game, you can beat your opponent at his or her own game.

Make sure the other player has to hit a number of balls throughout the match. By constantly running around to return the ball you have just hit, you will quickly tire your opponent.

Watch your own shots. If you hit the ball short, the ball will be returned to you faster. By hitting the balls deep, you give yourself proper time to get back to the center of the court in preparation for the next volley.

Usually, Power Baseliners have a comfort zone. Study the player on the court and determine the height at which the tennis player is most comfortable swinging his or her racket. When you hit the ball, make sure the ball goes out of his or her comfort zone.

Hit many short shots so that the Power Baseliner is forced to move up to the net regularly. Try to keep the shots low so that your opponent has to struggle to get the ball back over the net. This pulls the other player out of his or her comfort zone and changes the dynamics of the game.

Vary your ball speed and spin. Keep your opponent guessing on what he will be chasing with the next volley. If he or she cannot predict your power and timing, the player is far more likely to blow the game.

Do not watch your opponent during the game. Instead, keep your focus on the aim of the ball. Use the angle of the ball to draw your Power Baseline adoring opponent out of his or her zone.

Try to hit low shots that come in near your opponent’s feet. Odds are high that he or she will fail to get the ball back over the net. A Power Baseline player wants balls that are high and long.

Use a top spin to ensure your balls go high and then drop in barely after passing the net. This will not be what your opponent wants or is used to.

If you move forward and return the ball before your opponent expects it, you will disrupt his or her plan of attack.

Beating a Power Baseline player at his or her own game is the key to winning. Remember that they want the ball to be high and deep. Keep them from their ultimate plan by mixing things up a little, and you are guaranteed a win.

Tennis Basics

Jennifer Seaton Said:

The foundations of the great play of tennis are little, however need many hours practice.

The goal of tennis is to send the ball above the net to the ground within the limits of the opposite court in such a way that the adversary has the difficulty of returning it. Ninety percent of points of tennis are gained on errors, C-with-D., balls struck in the net or out of the court. A beginner must have a faith which the form of good will pay with dividends, once that it gains the ordering of his projectiles. A race of good-form sends the ball more quickly and exactly to the spots on the court where the adversary will have the majority of difficulty while returning it.

One informs beginners who they must be content with a goal of getting the ball above the Net and not expect that very often strike special sectors. In the same way the beginner will remain in the Dubland more often than he wants with He must practise patiently, initially to conquer the lines of net and border so that its balls unload some share in the court.

Later it will learn how to order its projectiles. Although several of its projectiles miss the target, it is to better test for them during practise that to be content with the Dubland projectiles. That takes time to produce projectiles of placement of tennis right as in the case of a strike of drive or bowling of golf 200-yards.

Your first task while learning from good races of tennis must discover so that they resemble. Observe the good players to obtain the mental image of the race, work of legs, and action of body. After you must learn as what the race feels. This muscle-image comes while imitating the form from good players.

Since it is very difficult to be observed carry out, the council of a trainer or a good player is of priceless value. However, it is important to imitate the races of a player who has the same construction of body as yours. Thus if you have long arms and legs, with a flexible trunk, test of don’t to imitate a short and heavy player.

The beginner should not be misled by abnormal methods of race. There is possible sufficient freedom in a margin of the healthy techniques. One expects that the reader employs his good direction by establishing the type of races which is appropriate to him better. Tennis is an individual play and competence depends on the type of physics, mental, and of the emotive make-up of the player.

The great difference between the men and the players of women is degree of force. Naturally the players of men can strike the ball harder. Often the players of women compensate for their lack of force by a greater exactitude. The strategy of court differs only in the quantity from play Net used. Many players of women cannot strike the ball enough hard to follow it to the net. Thus the tennis of the women is often characterized while being a play of base line with the règlages Nets, whereas the tennis of the men becomes a play Net with règlages of base line. The best players of women are with the top because they play a game of the man .

When you can manufacture your adversary to strike the ball in the net or starting from the court, you have a play of profit. There is a limit with the force which can be placed on the ball, if it must be placed exactly. Each student must decide on a happy combination of the force and exactitude, although the good force must be employed in races of good-form. The good force does not mean the test to strike the cover in addition to ball, and the races of house do not pay any dividend in tennis.

The studies of research proved that the beginners frequently straightforwardly do not strike the ball in the center of the racquet because they do not observe the ball, or do not obtain the racquet behind the ball in time to aim it exactly. It is right one of the many foundations which must be practised.

Tennis is a marvellous and good play in value every hour when you can pass to increase your competence. Good luck!

But even despite his loss, Sampras was very happy to be back and expressed that all the memories he had from England were very nice and comforting for him. He stated that everything reminds him how good the British people were with him and all the victories he accomplished back in his glory days, in which he won the Wimbledon Grand Slam seven times in eight years.

On this event, Sampras opened his participation against John McEnroe, whom he beat 6-3, 6-4. That gave Sampras confidence on his game again, especially with his 19 aces. However, that was not enough since he lost against Pioline on the semifinals. This was the first match that Pioline could win over Sampras in his whole career. This two amazing players have been always very competitive but Pioline had always a difficult time returning Sampras’ serve, although during this last match he did control it and that was the main reason why he got the victory.

“I always had problems to return his serve,” said the Frenchman. “Suddenly, I could read his serve. I don’t know why.”

Long time ago, when Sampras played professionally in 1997, he defeated Pioline in the Wimbledon final, but things were very different back then. Sampras was known by his high level of competitiveness and that year he started another winning streak of four Wimbledon titles. With those accomplishments, he became one of the best grass players of all time.

Sampras played his last professional tournament back in 2002 at the US Open, where he set the record of 14 Grand Slam titles by defeating in the final his all-time rival, Andre Agassi. After this, he planned not to play again. Nevertheless, he has been coming back to tennis this year but very gradually, first competing in a pair of senior matches and then with an exhibition game against Roger Federer at the Madison Square Garden. In this great event, Sampras declared that he will also be pleased to play against Rafael Nadal sometime next year. He expressed that he may have a chance against the Spaniard, if he plays under the right circumstances, since he has always been very competitive.

Pete Sampras started his professional career in 1988 at the age of 16. His first match as a professional was against Sammy Gammialva Jr. As time passed by, he kept on improving and after a couple of ATP Tour titles early in 1990, he won the first Grand Slam title that same year on the US Open. He finished his professional career in 2002 win an amazing record of 64 Singles titles, including his 14 major titles, 5 Tennis Masters Cups, 2 Grand Slams Cup, 11 ATP Masters Series and 32 ATP Tour tournaments. He also still holds the record of being ranked World No.1 for the most weeks, 286 in total.

We will have to wait to see what Sampras is preparing to for next year and if he decides to keep playing, we hope he can show his excellent skills as he used to do. It would certainly be very pleasant to see more of one of the best players in tennis history.

5 Jewelry Personality Types – Which Is Yours?

Janice Tham Said:

What does your choice of jewelry say about you?

Let’s take the black dress you might wear to a date, to a formal dinner or for a party. How would you accessorize it? Specifically, what jewelry would you wear with it?

Consider the following style types.

1. The Diva

Drama is her thing. She wears head turning signature pieces that are dramatic, but not tacky. She favors the best that money can buy. The largest gemstones, preferably diamonds, rubies or sapphires. Her jewelry feature nothing but the best, most exquisite and expensive wearable artwork.

She might wear a stunning necklace with large gemstones, that look like they worth as much as a small island. She is likely to favor dramatic chandelier earrings with diamonds cascading down her neck.

Her jewelry is likely to be gifts from her suitors. On the other hand, she might have bought them on a whim if she has the money. If not, she pass off costume jewelry as the real thing and no one might be any wiser.

Rules don’t apply to her. She makes her own rules. She could even wear an elaborate necklace and shoulder length earrings and an armful of diamond bangles and get away with it.

If she wears only a pair of earrings, you can bet those are huge diamonds worth a small fortune. Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Taylor and Beyonce are examples of divas in terms of style.

2. The Trend Setter

She is the girl or woman who sets the trends. In school, she is likely to have a group of wannabes who would do anything to be like her. What she wears is often aped by the fashion conscious crowds. She has mind of her own and is adventurous, daring to try new accessories and gets away with combinations that might make others look silly.

Jewelry wise, she is likely to wear what others are not yet wearing. She wouldn’t be caught dead wearing anything that is so last season, so the jewelry she wears probably just appeared on the fashion runways for future seasons.

Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex In A City is a definite trend setter.

3. The Sporty Beauty

You know the look. Glowy skin and an athletic body. Some of the top female tennis stars are sporty beauties. As are athletic women who turn heads wherever they go. The classic Bond girl can be regarded as a sporty beauty. She might wear one or two great pieces of jewelry with a simple outfit that shows off her figure.

Or she might wear something basic all the time, like a tennis bracelet or a pair of ear studs. Kournikova is a sporty beauty. As is Chris Evert who started the tennis bracelet craze.

4. The Minimalist

She might not even wear jewelry. A simple dress with an amazing cut might be all she needs. Her look may naturally beautiful or ultra sophisticated. If she does wear jewelry, she is likely to wear one elegant item at any time. Maybe a pair of pearl stud earrings. Or a pendant.

5. The Practical Fashionistica

She is smart. Unless the jewelry is a gift from a guy, she is likely to buy high quality costume jewelry to wear. After all, who could tell the difference these days. She wears what is needed to gift the outfit a boost. Likely a stunning pair of crystal earrings, a necklace that sets off her dress perfectly or whatever it takes that is within her budget.

Beads? Silver? As long is it looks good on her and goes well with the outfit.

Bracelets can make a great personal statement. What you wear tells people what you are like.

If you could have any bracelet in the world, which would be your favorite?

1. tennis bracelet

2. ruby bracelets

3. sterling cuff

4. medical id bracelet

5. rhinestone bracelet
